Body Building

Body building is a serious physical activity and lifestyle that takes extreme dedication. While on the surface, body building appears to be a very healthy sport and way of living, Dr. Adams has worked with many body builders throughout the years that practice some very unhealthy behaviors. Some of these unhealthy behaviors include starvation dieting, excessive exercise, diuretic and laxative abuse, and anabolic steroid use. It is essential to have a proper exercise program as well as ample nutrition to push your body to its ultimate strength and achieve maximum growth from your muscles. Body builders naturally need more calories than the average person because of the tremendous physical stress they are putting on their bodies daily. Protein is usually one nutrient that has an increased requirement when becoming a body builder simply because of the continual breakdown that occurs of muscle tissue during high amounts of resistance training. Additional protein can help repair these muscles and prepare them for their next workout. However, protein isn't the only nutrient that you should increase in your quest to become bigger and stronger. In most cases, you should increase all of your macronutrients, protein, carbohydrates and fat, to achieve the body you desire. Dr. Adams can help you determine the right amounts of these macronutrients to provide you with the fuel you need to build the body you desire. Additionally, body builders may benefit from nutritional supplementation simply because of the increased demand on the body to perform. While there are thousands of nutritional supplements on the market, Dr. Adams can work with you to help clear up any confusion and make sure you are taking exactly what you need to reach your bodybuilding goals.
